This archive is independent. It is not run by Stornoway, by their management or by any label that released their records, and it cannot pass messages to the band. For anything that needs to reach them, use the band’s own site, linked in the header.

Corrections and additions

The live archive is reconstructed from listings published at the time, and listings are not always right: dates move, support slots change, venues close and reopen under other names. If you were at a show that is recorded wrongly here, or at one that is missing, write in. The same goes for session details, release dates and personnel on individual tracks.

Where a correction changes what a page says, the page is amended, not annotated; the archive is meant to be read, not audited.

What this archive can and cannot help with

It can help with the record: what came out when, on which label, in which order, who played on it, where the band were on a given night, and what was said publicly at the time. That is what an archive is for, and it is the part that gets lost fastest, because listings pages are taken down long before the music stops being listened to.

It cannot help with anything that requires the band. It cannot forward a message, arrange an interview, clear a sample, license a photograph, confirm a rumour or tell you whether there will be a date near you. Requests of that kind reach nobody useful here. The band maintain their own site and their own channels, and those are linked from the header of every page on this one.

It also cannot supply lyrics, tablature or audio. Those belong to the people who wrote and recorded them, and this site does not reproduce them.

Where the material comes from

Three kinds of source, in roughly this order of authority.

  • The band’s own publications — announcements, tour listings and news posts as they were published at the time, including those recovered from archived copies of pages that no longer exist.
  • Labels and the music press — release dates, formats, credits, chart placings and contemporary reviews.
  • Reference works, used for cross-checking and not as a first source, because they carry their own errors and this site has already found a few.

Where two sources disagree and neither can be resolved, the page says so or stays vague instead of picking the more convenient number. There are at least two dates in this band’s discography where that is the honest position.

A word on independence

This is a listener’s archive, not an official one. Nothing here is approved, endorsed or reviewed by Stornoway, by Cooking Vinyl, by 4AD or by anyone acting for them. No page on this site should be read as the band speaking, and nothing written here is intended to pass as their voice.

The practical consequence is worth stating: if a page here contradicts something the band have said themselves, they are right and this site is wrong, and a note to the address above will get it fixed.

Reusing what is here

The research on this site — the gig chronology, the release detail, the way the material is put together — took a while to assemble and is free to quote with a link back. Wholesale copying of pages is not welcome, and copying them without the link helps nobody, least of all a reader trying to work out where a date came from.

Photographs, artwork and recordings referred to on this site belong to their creators and are not ours to license. For anything of that kind, ask the people who made it.

FAQ

Can you put me in touch with the band?

No. This is an independent archive with no line to Stornoway, their management or their labels. Messages sent here reach the editors of this site and nobody else. The band’s own website is linked from the header of every page.

Do you sell tickets, records or merchandise?

Nothing is sold here. This site has no shop, takes no payments and cannot help with an order placed somewhere else.

I have spotted a wrong gig date. What do you need?

The date as you remember it, the venue and city, and anything that pins it down — a ticket stub, a listing, a review, a photograph with a date on it. Even an approximate correction is useful; the chronology is reconstructed from listings that were sometimes wrong when they were published.

Do you have lyrics, tablature or audio?

No, and deliberately so. Those belong to the people who wrote and recorded them. This site writes about the songs rather than reproducing them.

Can I quote from this site?

Yes, with attribution and a link back to the page you took it from. Copying whole pages, or lifting the gig chronology wholesale, is not on. See the terms.

How quickly do you reply?

The archive is maintained by people with other jobs, so not immediately. Corrections are acted on before anything else, because a wrong date left standing gets copied elsewhere.
